Missouri is home to over 4,500 springs, more than any other state in the US. Missouri is also home one of the largest springs in the world, Big Spring, and the deepest in the United States, Roaring River Spring. How are springs classified? Springs are classified by magnitude using how many gallons of water they release a day. Here are the classifications: 1st Magnitude: 64.6 million gallons or greater per day 2nd Magnitude: 6.46 million - 64.5 million gallons per day 3rd Magnitude: 646,317 gallons - 6.45 million gallons per day 4th Magnitude: 1,440 gallons - 646,317 gallons per day
