Exploring The Missouri Ozarks
Welcome

Welcome to Mozark Hiker, your number one source for discovering interesting features within the wilderness of Missouri. From interesting rock formations to stunning springs to the oldest mountains in North America, find out more about the amazing Missouri Ozarks

Although some trails are highlighted, this page IS NOT meant to be a trail guide, it is simply a portfolio of interesting locations within the state. Although I have tried my best to capture the best of Missouri, it is impossible to share all locations and do the state justice for all it has to offer.

The Ozarks: More than just a lake

Although most people think of the Lake of the Ozarks when they hear the word "Ozarks", the Ozarks are much more than a manmade reservoir. The Missouri Ozarks formed over millions of years. The St. Francois Mountains formed through volcanic activity during the Precambrian era, with erosion revealing the igneous core of the ancient volcanic system that we see today. During the Paleozoic Era, sediments were deposited from ancient seas, forming layers of rock. Uplift and erosion during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras sculpted the landscape, creating the hills, valleys, and karst topography of the Ozarks that we see today. Water seeping through the region's limestone caused the development of caves, sinkholes, springs, etc. that are enjoyed by all.

Hiking Safety

Hiking should be done with proper equipment. Boots, first aid kits, backpacks, etc. should be used when hiking. Weather will always have an effect on hiking. Trail maps are always helpful as well. DO NOT hike without having an idea of what the map of the area looks like.

Hiking Discipline

Littering should never take place while in the wilderness. Secure all loose wrappers and other trash as you never know when they may fall out of pockets. Leaving no trace allows others to enjoy nature the way it was intended to be enjoyed.
