#4. Welch Spring

Welch Spring dumps 105 million gallons of water into the Upper Curent River daily. The history of this spring is very unique. The building you see next to the spring was once a hospital, believe it or not. Located within the ruins of the hospital lies a cave that leads back to the spring underground. In 1913 a doctor by the name of C.H. Diehl bought the spring, as he thought it had healing powers for those suffering from tuberculosis, asthma, and other respiratory diseases. On top of the hospital, Dr. Diehl also turned the spring and cave into a resort style getaway. Unfortunatley, due to the remoteness of the location, the hospital and resort failed and Dr. Diehl died. But his legacy and ideas lived on, as million visit the many springs and caves of Missouri every year and enjoy the cool Ozark air.
