Other Interesting Features

Claybaugh Creek: Huge cascades and large impressive bluffs. Very intense bushwhack hike through dense woods.
Royal Gorge: The Royal Gorge Trail is located near Ketcherside Mountain and features a narrow gorge with a shut-in at the bottom. The trail has been partially destroyed due to logging but the view from the top is worth it.
Marsh Creek Shut-In: Only accessible via long dirt roads and 2 mile bushwhack. Scenic cascades after large rain.
Council Bluff Lake/Johnson Mountain: Popular Swimming location and kayaking location. A public beach open during summer months. There is a loop trail around the entire lake and a spur that summits Johnson Mountain where there is a great lookout point.
Buford Mountain: The trail for Buford Mountain is 9.4 miles and follows the entire ridgeline before looping down and around and back up again. Bald Knob is a popular lookout point and backpacking location. although very windy.
Weiss Shut-In: A small shut-in located along Highway D past Silver Mines and Blue Mountain Camp. It is located at the southern base of Van East Mountain.
James Creek Tributary Shut-In: Small shut-in with nice canyon walls. Mosses and lichens make this place worth the hike.
Stouts Creek: Upper and Middle Stouts Creek Shut-Ins are easily accessible. Middle Stouts Creek Shut-In is easily viewed from Highway 72 bridge but is on private property. Upper Stouts Creek Shut-In is located on Stouts Creek Road.
Lon Sanders Canyon: Located in Piedmont along McKenzie Creek. A popular local swimming location in the summer.
Knob Lick Towersite: A must-stop location on Highway 67 is Knob Lick Towersite. Located on the top of Knob Lick Mountain within a glade, the Knob Lick Tower was built in 1938 to discover wildfires. It can still be climbed today.
The Pinnacles on the Little St. Francis River: Home to Missouri's second tallest waterfall, Pinnacle Falls, the Pinnacles feature nice shut-ins and neat bluff formations including a large pinnacle on the top. It is unfortunately on private property but is accessible via the Little St. Francis River which is legally a navigable waterway..
Mud Creek Shut-In: A very large cascade called Mud Creek Shut-In is located on national forest land on the other side of the river from Silver Mines and Millstream Gardens. 2 miles of bushwhacking is required.
